Flat Submersible Cable — Agri

Agri Flat Submersible

India’s most widely used 3 core flat submersible cable for agriculture. Over two decades of borewell and irrigation use across the country has made this the go-to choice for farmers, pump dealers, and rural electricians. The familiar flat design fits standard borewell casings easily, and the ISI-marked construction gives end users confidence in every installation.

This submersible cable for agriculture is engineered for the real conditions of Indian farming  irregular voltage supply, water-filled casings, and long unattended operation during irrigation seasons.

Three Core Flat Submersible Cable — Agri

FAQ - Agri Flat Submersible Cable

BMI Agri Flat Submersible Cable is India’s most widely used 3-core flat submersible cable for agricultural borewell pump installations. It is designed for farmers, pump dealers, and rural electricians who need a reliable, ISI-marked cable for standard borewell irrigation setups. With over 21 years of proven field performance across India’s farming regions, it is the go-to choice for straightforward agri-borewell applications where the borewell depth is standard and geological conditions are not unusually hard or rocky.

Yes — BMI Agri Flat Submersible Cable is ISI marked and manufactured in compliance with IS 694 standards under BIS certification. This makes it eligible for government agricultural pump subsidy schemes across all Indian states, where ISI marking is a mandatory procurement requirement. The manufacturing facility in Bhiwadi, Rajasthan operates under ISO 9001:2015 certification. Material test certificates (MTCs) are available on request for bulk and institutional procurement.

Rural power supply in India is characterised by frequent voltage fluctuations, single-phasing events, and extended low-voltage periods — especially during peak irrigation seasons when grid load is highest. These fluctuations cause excess heat buildup in the motor winding and cable insulation. The Agri cable’s thick PVC insulation is specifically engineered to withstand this thermal stress, protecting the motor from insulation breakdown during irregular voltage conditions. Using a non-ISI cable or underspecified cable in rural supply conditions is the single most common cause of premature motor winding failure.

With correct sizing, proper installation, and standard rural voltage supply conditions, BMI Agri Flat Submersible Cable is designed for long-term borewell use — the 23+ years proven design reflects the cable construction’s track record across Indian farming conditions. Actual service life depends on borewell depth, pump motor load, water chemistry, and local supply voltage quality. In conditions involving very deep borewells (150+ metres), hard rocky strata, or continuous 24×7 industrial-duty pumping, the XL or Rubber Flex grade is the appropriate upgrade for extended service life.

Cable sizing depends on three factors: the pump motor’s nameplate current rating (in amperes), the borewell depth (which determines run length for voltage drop calculation), and the supply voltage at the control panel. As a starting rule, select a conductor size whose current capacity rating exceeds the motor’s nameplate current, then verify that voltage drop across the full cable length stays within 5% of supply voltage. For most standard agricultural submersible pumps (0.5 HP to 5 HP), conductor sizes of 1.5 sq.mm to 4 sq.mm are commonly specified — but always confirm against the actual motor nameplate, not the HP rating alone. Contact BMI’s technical team with your pump HP, borewell depth, and supply voltage for a site-specific recommendation.

The flat profile of the Agri cable is specifically sized to pass through standard borewell casings alongside the delivery pipe and pump assembly without jamming or forcing. Round cables of equivalent current capacity are significantly wider and can be difficult to install in narrow casings. The flat design is also familiar to rural electricians and pump mechanics across India — reducing installation time, eliminating guesswork during cable routing, and minimising callbacks from improper installation. The cable’s consistent flat geometry also makes retrieval easier when the pump needs to be pulled for maintenance.
